How do I repair a shower drain

l have a fiberglass shower enclosure.The drain gasket is deteriorated.Lowes 
squishums
says l need to replace the whole drain section (not just the gasket) but it

seems to be a permanent installation.l do not know how to proceed.

Un screw the drain from the top with needle nose pliers or use
